DOZENS of Indonesians gathered outside the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta on Monday to protest the sale and printing of a comic book, where one of the pages denigrates an Indonesian maid working in Malaysia.

Protesters from a civil society organisation known as Corong Rakyat demanded the authorities stop the printing and sale of the comic book in several bookstore chains in Malaysia.

They urged authorities to investigate the motive behind the story and illustrations by the artist, Cheeming Boey.

Indonesian news reports said Boey, 45, is a Malaysian citizen born in Singapore and domiciled in the United States.

South Jakarta police sent 47 officers to monitor the protest that started at noon and ended about an hour later. – Bernama, June 26, 2023.
