PAS is a party that often changes its political fatwas (edicts) to suit its needs, Therefore its members shouldn’t be afraid to vote for other parties, former deputy president Mohamad Sabu said.

Mohamad, who now heads Amanah, said PAS members believed that it was a sin for them to vote other than PAS but the party had changed its stance several times and made friends with its enemies.

“PAS became friends with Umno through Muafakat Nasional, and working with Umno was then regarded as a gift from Allah.

“PAS said DAP is communist, DAP is bad. But between 2008 and 2013, PAS had tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with DAP. DAP was considered good then. The PAS president had even campaigned for DAP in Teluk Intan.

“This means that their political belief changes. PAS members, do not be afraid to vote for others in the future,” he said at “Jelajah Mega Madani Negeri Selangor” in Shah Alam last night.

Mohamad better known as Mat Sabu then urged voters to use the state election to stop political parties that have been harping on racial and religious sentiments to create disunity.

“This is a very evil accusation. I want to ask how many Malays and Muslims have been exterminated in Penang? Were there any?

“But these people with bad mouths always like to play up racial sentiments. To all those who are here today, let’s put this practice to a stop.”

Although Anwar Ibrahim and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did not attend the event last night, other prominent Harapan leaders who were present included DAP deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, PKR vice-president and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, and PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim.

Amirudin urged Pakatan Harapan to forget their past differences with Barisan Nasional (BN) to win the upcoming state elections.

He said cooperation between PH and BN is vital to win a two-thirds majority in the state.

“Insya-Allah it won’t be long before our BN friends come together (and campaign for the elections),” he said.

We can forget about past differences because what’s important now is that we unite and come together to save and restore the country that was damaged by the Sheraton Move and Perikatan Nasional,” he added.

DAP Selangor chairman Gobind Singh Deo told the crowd that the election outcome will be determined by voter turnout and urged everyone to vote.

He said unity government supporters should not be complacent and should come out in droves and vote. –  June 25, 2023.
