MOHAMED Azmin Ali has not ruled out contesting in the state elections despite earlier claiming he will be taking a break.

“The current situation requires us to work as a team and increase support,” the Bersatu Supreme Council member told the press today when asked if he would contest in the Selangor polls.

“So as a party person, I will obey and adhere to the party’s instructions.”

Asked if he would be given a seat to contest, he said “maybe you can call the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman (to get the answer)”.

In February, Azmin, a former Selangor menteri besar, announced that he would be taking a short break from politics.

Azmin was the assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa, a seat he won on the PKR ticket in the 2018 general election.

The PN information chief also said seat negotiations among PN parties for Selangor and other states had been completed.

Azmin confirmed that PN will contest all 56 seats in Selangor.

“Hopefully, we will win and form the government in Selangor,” he said.

“We need to win at least 29 to form the government, but we want more than that to ensure a stable government.”

The Selangor legislative assembly dissolved yesterday.

The dates for the six state polls have yet to be fixed. All six must hold their elections by September. – June 24, 2023.
