DAP is treating Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the unity government like a “dirty doormat”, Perikatan Nasional (PN) youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said today.
Referring to former DAP lawmaker Tony Pua’s statement last night, who called BN a “corrupt alliance”, Fadhli asked if Umno, BN members will continue to support the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component party in Selangor.
“Tony Pua called BN corrupt and that PH should form the government without them in the next federal election.
“Such statement comes before the state elections. DAP probably sees BN as a dirty doormat, who is just waiting to be ditched.
“Aren’t Umno, BN members ashamed to be voting for DAP in the state elections?” the Pasir Mas lawmaker told the 400-odd crowd at PN’s convention in Selangor.
Last night, Pua, speaking at a DAP fundraising dinner in Petaling Jaya, was reported to have called BN a “corrupt alliance”, with the same label given to Bersatu, another Malay nationalist party.
Pua said he hoped that PH could form its own government without the involvement of Umno and BN in the next general election.
Meanwhile, Selangor Umno deputy chairman Johan Aziz said BN would not participate in the Mega Madani Selangor Tour (Jelajah Mega Madani Selangor) event in Shah Alam tonight.
He said BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would also not be present at the programme organised by PH, which is expected to feature Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is PH chairman.
Fadhli said Pua’s remark about BN is something PN agrees with.
“Surprisingly, it is something we agree with DAP (that BN is corrupt),” he said.
The PAS lawmaker also said they are optimistic about winning Selangor in the polls.
“We in PN will be together to take over Selangor and the other two states (currently under PH),” he said.
“We will also work to keep the three states under our control.
“Believe me, if we win Selangor, they (PH) will not last long (in the federal government).” – June 24, 2023.
