A TRAILER lorry driver pleaded not guilty in a magistrate’s court in Kuantan today to reckless driving, resulting in a road crash that caused the death of two sisters last week.

Muhammad Noor Azwan Abd Saman, 31, was charged with driving recklessly, which resulted in the death of car driver Siti Nur Alia Saffiyah Zulkifli, 18, and passenger Siti Mazurah, 30, near the Felda Lepar Hilir traffic-light junction at 11pm on June 13.

The father of three was charged under section 41(1) of the Transport Act 1987, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine not more than RM50,000, upon conviction.

Magistrate Fatinah Abu Bakar allowed bail of RM7,000 in one surety and ordered the accused’s driving licence to be suspended pending disposal of the case.

The court fixed July 21 for mention.
