SELANGOR Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari is confident the Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) performance and strong administration in the state means it can defend its incumbency in the state polls.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor PH chairman, said since the 2018 general election, there have been no big issues at the state level, which is further proof of the state’s strong administration.
“It is not impossible for us to repeat our 2018 success by winning more than 50 seats. So far, we are very positive and confident. God willing, can retain (the administration) with a two-thirds majority,” he told a special media conference for the fifth anniversary of his tenure at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah today
Amirudin said Selangor PH will not underestimate the efforts and dreams of Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is looking to take over the state.
Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today consented to dissolving the state assembly on Friday.
The MB said he and the state executive council will form a caretaker government after the assembly is dissolved.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said it is inappropriate for anyone to preempt the sultan’s announcement of the dissolution date.
He said those who do so breach the customs practised by the state government on the dissolution date announcement, which requires guidance from the palace.
“We have laws, customs and conventions to follow. To me, it is inappropriate for anyone to preempt the sultan of Selangor in announcing the date of dissolution for the Selangor assembly.”
Earlier, at a ceramah in Tanjong Karang, Selangor PN chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali said the Selangor assembly would be dissolved today. – Bernama, June 19, 2023.
