IGP Acryl Sani retires early to pursue ‘offer' he can’t refuse, says report

INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani will resign as the top cop in July, months earlier than the scheduled date in October, Berita Harian (BH) reports

Acryl Sani told the Malay daily that he will officially quit in the first week of July.

“Yes, it’s true, I will retire from the police force in the first week of July.

“The decision was made because I was given an an offer that I couldn’t refuse.”

He declined to elaborate on the offer.

Sources told BH Acryl is joining a government-owned bank.

Acryl began his tenure as IGP on May 3, 2021, replacing Abdul Hamid Bador.

Acryl was supposed to retire the same year when he turned 60, but his contract was extended for two more years ending October this year.

In 2020, he was promoted to deputy IGP. He had previously led the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, the Strategic Resources and Technology Department, and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department in Bukit Aman.

Acryl’s successor has not been named.

Following his retirement, his deputy Razarudin Husain will lead the police force.

Acryl turns 62 in October while Razarudin Husain is 60. – June 19, 2023.
