FORMER Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Noh Omar said he will not be contesting in the state elections, but will instead play a supporting role.
“I think (I’ve had) enough for now, and I want to make way for new faces because Selangor has a lot of credible young leaders for us to put forward.
“However, I will be joining the campaign to continue my mission to defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Selangor, a mission that began since BN lost the state in 2008,” he told a Perikatan Nasional (PN) event in Bangi last night, as reported by Sinar Harian.
Noh was among several Umno members sacked from the party, alongside Khairy Jamaluddin and Annuar Musa.
Only Noh and Annuar have officially declared they are backing PN.
Noh told the ceramah PN has a good chance of winning Selangor because there were unlikely to be multi-cornered contests in the elections.
“That is why when I was the (Selangor) Umno head before, I told the leadership we must ensure there are no three-cornered fights in Selangor between BN, PH and PAS,” he said.
Early last year, Noh launched an intensive lobby for the Umno leadership to allow a BN-PAS pact just for Selangor. That did not materialise because the Umno leadership was at odds with PAS for favouring Bersatu. – June 18, 2023.
