A MOTORCYCLIST who rode against the flow of traffic on the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Highway (SUKE) and suspected to have caused the death of another rider has surrendered to police.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Mohd Azam Ismail said the 41-year-old suspect lodged a police report on the incident yesterday at the Kajang police station.
“The man was on the way home to Kajang from Ampang but had gotten lost and decided to enter SUKE against the flow of traffic. The suspect collided with the victim, leading to him also falling from his motorcycle.
“He went home afterwards and said he only knew of the case after news had spread on television and social media,” he was quoted as saying by The Star Online.
Azam said police had released the suspect for the time being as he had sustained injuries.
“Checks showed he suffered a broken shoulder, finger and other injuries to the shoulder and leg during the incident. Among the items seized was a motorcycle.
“A total of six witnesses, including the suspect, have had their statements recorded,” Azam was quoted as saying.
In last Friday’s crash, Ahmad Fadzil Omar Azaddin, 64, who was riding a Ducati Panigale, died after falling 30m from the highway while trying to avoid a motorcycle going against the flow of traffic.
The impact of the crash sent Fadzil plunging to the ground below the highway and his motorcycle sliding into the middle of the road. – June 17, 2023.
