DAP leader urges parties to move forward for effective unity govt

PARTIES should understand that not all political differences can be resolved, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said today.

He said that while Umno and DAP respected each other’s views, there were areas in which they differed.

“We cannot be listening to everyone. We want to get past that, we want to move forward on how to make the unity government effective,” ,” he said on BFM’s “The Breakfast Grille.”

“We cannot say that if there is one or two issues (between parties) then we can’t work together.”

Loke was referring to Umno Youth’s demand for an apology for its members to accept DAP as a partner.

MCA Youth also wants an apology from DAP for past insults.

Umno, MCA and DAP are partners in the unity government.

Loke said Umno Youth members had understand that the unity government was formed in a matter of days.

“So, of course there are unresolved issues and issues within the grassroots.

“They have been around for many years, so there are a lot different voices within Umno.

“What is important is the leadership, the Umno president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and (party members are) in the cabinet.

“We had to put aside our differences to form the coalition.

“But working with past enemies is something we have done, such as with past foes in 2018 when we served under former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.”

He said the unity coalition is working well together, and that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has been “very accommodating” – June 15, 2023.
