Protest outside Parliament over redelineation, Bersih tells Malaysians

BERSIH 2.0 is calling on all Malaysians to join them as they submit a memorandum to Parliament objecting to the redelineation of the proposed electoral areas this Wednesday.

The Bersih 2.0 Steering Committee will be handing their memorandum to Parliament Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia and Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“On Wednesday, Bersih 2.0 will submit a memorandum to Parliament Speaker Pandikar Amin and Prime Minister Najib Razak, to lay before them the reasons why Parliament should not give effect to the recommendations contained in the delineation report,” Bersih 2.0 said in a media statement today.

“Bersih 2.0 urges all Malaysians to join us as at the gates of Parliament as we submit a memorandum to the speaker of Parliament.

“We must stand up and defend the right to elect a government that is the people’s choice.”

The Election Commission had submitted the final report on the redelineation to Najib on March 9.

Pandikar had earlier said that Putrajaya would table the report on March 28 to propose the redelineation of electoral areas.

All documents of the electoral areas, currently available only to MPs, cannot be distributed or published until they are tabled by the government next week.

Bersih 2.0 said the Election Commission had blatantly disregarded the redelineation process, failed to hear the objections, and had finished the redelineation process early.

“Firstly, there are cases pending in the courts with respect to the delineation process conducted by the Election Commission. One of the cases has 107 plaintiffs representing 10,000 voters.

“Secondly, prior to presenting the report to the prime minister, the Election Commission failed to hear objections from many members of the public who submitted objections in conformity with the Federal Constitution.

“Thirdly, the Federal Constitution anticipates that the Election Commission requires two years, from giving public notice of the proposed delineation, to submitting a report to the prime minister.

“The Election Commission published the notice on September 15, 2016. Therefore, the Election Commission has about six more months to complete its work (until September 14, 2018).

As such, Bersih 2.0 said that the prime minister and Pandikar should immediately withdraw the report from Parliament and allow all legal challenges to be settled in court first.

“The blatant misuse of power and unchecked violations to the constitution cannot be allowed to continue,” it said. – March 24, 2018.

  • I was teaching a kid how to drive a car last Friday. I told her If she wants the car to reverse clockwise , she should turn the steering wheel anti clockwise , and she said got it teach and started to reverse the car.

Half way through reversing the car , she abruptly stopped turning the wheel anti clockwise and started turning it clockwise.

I asked her what the heck are you doing and you know what she said . She said she wanted the car to reverse at a steeper angle , but since the wheel wouldn’t turn anymore, and she hadn’t gotten the car to reverse at the angle she wanted , she figured she should just turn the wheel clockwise instead , because she felt she had to do something , and turning clockwise is all that was left for her to do.

Bersih is like that kid I tell you. They are doing what they are doing because they want haven’t gotten what they wanted , and they feel they have to do something, regardless of whether what they are doing makes sense or not anymore.

What’s the point of having good intentions if we are stupid. Mati tak nak, hidup menyusahkan orang ( bersih i mean .. the kid was just learning ...she is fine now )

    • Great illustration, Sathiamoorthy. Somebody's desperate and desperate times call for desperate measures.
