KEDAH Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s antics against DAP and the party-led state government of Penang won’t help resolve the acute water shortage crisis in Kedah, Lim Guan Eng said.

In a statement, the former Penang chief minister and Bagan MP stressed that Sanusi’s behaviour would also not solve the economic issues faced by Kedahans.

“Sanusi has no idea how to resolve the acute water shortage crisis in Kedah. To date, Sanusi has not explained how his campaign to return Penang back to Kedah will help resolve the acute water shortage crisis in Kedah and other economic issues faced by Kedahans,” said Lim.

Recently, Sanusi, a PAS Kedah assemblyman. claimed that Penang belonged to Kedah.

On May 29, Sanusi said the two states did not have a border and had asked for the constitution to be amended.

Anwar yesterday told a forum in Penang that leaders need to be well read so they can use their knowledge to help the people.

He said a leader needs to be knowledgeable, well read and should not rely on half-truths.

He referred to the “Kedah belongs to Penang” issue by stating that this is what happens when a leader does not read.

Responding to this, Lim today said that Sanusi is unlikely to listen to Anwar’s advice that he should read more on history.

The DAP chairman said Sanusi has built his entire career on not just half-truths but also outright lies, which when exposed, he would then deny.

“Sanusi had claimed Kedah and Penang did not have a border because Penang still belonged to Kedah. Sanusi is wrong because both Kedah and Penang have agreed to a border that was formally enacted pursuant to Article 2 of the Federal Constitution.

“The boundaries of Penang and Kedah were demarcated and codified into law under the Akta Kedah dan Pulau Pinang (Pengubahan Sempadan) 1985.

“Sanusi had also denied saying he doubted the sovereignty of Penang even though he was caught on video and tik-tok saying it.

“Similarly, Sanusi denied ever calling for the Federal Constitution to be amended to allow Penang to be returned to Kedah, pinning the blame instead on a supposedly false report by online news portal FMT.

“Again, there was no response from Sanusi when FMT published verbatim the WhatsApp conversation between Sanusi and the FMT reporter that conclusively proved that Sanusi had indeed suggested that the Federal Constitution be amended,” Lim said.

On Tuesday, police confirmed that they will take Sanusi’s statement as part of their investigation under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements that lead to public alarm and distress, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service.

Sanusi on the other hand denied wanting the Federal Constitution amended to support his claim that Penang belongs to Kedah.

“I didn’t say this anywhere. I have never said that. Yesterday’s discussion in Parliament was based on a misquote, and everyone referred to that mistake.

“Everything that was said was wrong. Whatever they said was wrong,” he had said. –  June 12, 2023.
