WE are in the final stretch before Parliament is dissolved and the date for GE14 is announced, and it is most likely held before the fasting month begins in mid-May.
It’s also the beginning of the silly season where threats will be plentiful; where this crop of ministers will prove once again that you don’t have to be competent to serve; where scandals will be labelled as fake news and fake news dressed up as news in the mainstream media.
Just ask yourself these questions:
- Were you remotely shocked that Felda activist Mazlan Aliman was picked up from his home at 1.45am after his biting online criticism against the government and the prime minister’s wife?
- Did the speech by an Umno leader urging party members to vandalise business outlets that are deemed anti-government seem so out of character for a ruling party politician?
- Did you fall off your chair when the Umno politicians were falling over themselves to defend financier Jho Low and repeat the party line that no offences were committed at 1MDB?
- Are you surprised that the police have closed investigations involving the MACC chief and his alleged affair on government time and expense?
- Are you surprised that the government keeps asking for more money with new supplementary supply bills despite tabling budgets that are said to be cutting down on deficit?
If the answer to all five questions is NO, that should indicate how immunised Malaysians have become to the ridiculous and the brazen.
Even more sad is the fact that we can’t depend on any institution to help us save Malaysia.
All said and done, it’s down to you. – March 24, 2018.
