FORMER Umno lawmaker Annuar Musa said more than 2 million party members have left the party since 2013.

The newly minted PAS member was quoted by HarakahDaily as saying Umno no longer fights for Malays and Islam.

“It has become a party that only takes care of the interests of certain individuals and factions.

“Umno is now busy taking care of DAP and has become a sweeper for the party,” Annuar was quoted as saying by the Islamist party’s organ at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) talk in Senawang, Negri Sembilan, last night.

Annuar, a former Umno Supreme Council member, said the party is being controlled by its president and has become the number one traitor of Malays and Muslims in the country.

He told attendees he decided to join PAS after performing the umrah recently.

“I just want all of us to be calm and open when deciding on the platform for our political struggles. Let’s choose the right path to seek the truth. I hope Umno will unite the Malays and not be the cause of their disunity,” he said.

Annuar said he will explain his decision to join PAS and PN at the coalition’s public rallies.

Yesterday PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said Annuar, who is Muafakat Nasional president, had officially joined PAS.

“I wish to confirm Tan Sri Annuar Musa has been accepted as a PAS member… along with 3,000 others,” said Takiyuddin.

Also present at last night’s event were PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Hadi later presented a membership certificate to Annuar. – June 11, 2023.
