Tiong King Sing wins PDP presidency uncontested

TOURISM, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing has retained his presidency of the Sarawak-based Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

The Bintulu MP, who has held the presidency since 2016, won uncontested at the party’s triennial general assembly in Bintulu today.

There was also no fight for the party’s number two position, with Tasik Biru assemblyman and the state’s Deputy Transport Minister (Maritime and Riverine) Harry Jinep installed as Tiong’s deputy uncontested.

He takes over from Anthony Nogeh, who stepped down.

Exercising his prerogative, Tiong appointed the party’s elected representatives – two assemblymen and one MP – to senior appointed positions.

He appointed Marudi assemblyman, Penguang Manggil, as senior vice-president I and Meluan assemblyman, Rolland Duat, as senior vice-president II.

Baram MP, Anyi Ngau, was appointed the new secretary-general, taking over from Nelson Balang Rining.

PDP is a component of Sarawak’s ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak four-party coalition. – June 10, 2023.
