FORMER Umno Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said Perikatan Nasional (PN) offered for him to contest in Pasir Salak in the general election (GE) after Umno dropped him.

He said he rejected the offer.

“When my name was not included in the (Barisan Nasional) candidacy list, I was offered (to contest in the GE).

“If I had accepted the offer, I would have still been the MP for Pasir Salak.

“The current winner Jamaluddin Yahya would not have stood a chance (if I had contested),” Tajuddin told reporters today at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Tajuddin, who was suspended from Umno for six years last year, made a surprise appearance at the Umno General Assembly today.

Despite his suspension, Tajuddin pledged loyalty to Umno.

“I am loyal to Umno. Umno has done a lot for me and I have done a lot for Umno in kind.

“Why would I want to leave? I’d be stupid if I were to leave.

“I will not leave Umno,” he said.

Asked about his appeal against his six-year suspension from the party, Tajuddin said he has sent three letters to Zahid but has not received a response.

He urged the party to revoke the suspension and reinstate his membership so he can contribute in the state elections.

“I want to help this party in the state elections, so I would like to have my membership (restored),” he said.

Last June, Tajuddin was sacked from the Malay nationalist party’s Supreme Council. He was dropped as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia in July, and suspended in October for openly criticising the party and the president. – June 9, 2023.
