A MAGISTRATE’S court in Kuala Kubu Baru was told today that actor Hafidz Roshdi, who was charged with injuring his wife in March, is fit to stand trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Asmaa’ Zamri said this was based on the psychiatric evaluation report issued by Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, on Hafidz, 29.

“The prosecution has received the psychiatric evaluation report, which states that the accused is fit and can be tried by this court,” he said during the mention of the case before judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali, who acted as magistrate.

Asmaa’ also applied to the court for another date to be fixed for the submission of documents.

Lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represented Hafidz, requested that a copy of the psychiatric report be submitted to the defence, but Asmaa said the prosecution only had one copy of the report and it would be submitted at the next mention of the case.

The court set July 17 for remention of the case.

In the previous proceedings, the court ordered that the actor get a psychiatric examination and treatment after the prosecution requested that the accused be referred to Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, in accordance with section 342 of the criminal procedure code.

On March 13, Hafidz pleaded not guilty to the charge of intentionally causing injury to his wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, by punching her left cheek three times until she suffered cuts, bruises and swelling.

The actor of the drama series “Tundukkan Playboy Itu”, is accused of committing the offence near the Sungai Buaya Toll exit, Kuala Kubu Baru, at 3.22am on March 2.

The charge, framed under section 323 of the penal code, carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.

The charge was read together with section 326A of the same law, which provides for imprisonment for a term that may extend to twice the maximum term on conviction under section 323. – Bernama, June 9, 2023.
