A SELANGOR Umno leader has urged its former chief Noh Omar to reconsider his new-found alliance with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Jamal Md Yunos, who is Sungai Besar Umno chief, also said the party was ready to welcome him back.
Jamal is reported in Free Malaysia Today as saying that it was disappointing to see Noh backing PN for the state elections.
“As someone who had benefited greatly from (being with) Umno, to be (seen) on the opposing side is very disappointing.
“I have great respect for Noh. I don’t deny his contributions to Umno (but) I would just like to advise my former boss to rethink (his alliance),” he was quoted as saying in FMT today.
Jamal also acknowledged that Selangor Umno under Noh’s leadership had failed to win the state back from Pakatan Rakyat and subsequently Pakatan Harapan, since 2008.
“Noh has led Selangor Umno twice and participated in three general elections. I won’t say he failed completely, but under his leadership Umno did not regain strength (in Selangor),” he said.
Noh had been Umno’s Tanjong Karang lawmaker for six terms until he was dropped in the last general election in November.
Umno sacked him in January for purportedly violating the party constitution.
He subsequently said he would contest in the Selangor polls on a PN ticket but has yet to indicate the party he would be joining.
Noh has also been playing up PN’s chances of winning Selangor in the elections, saying that the federal opposition coalition could win 33 of the 56 seats in the state assembly. – June 7, 2023.
