THE Selangor assembly will most probably be dissolved on June 19, said Azmin Ali, who is leading the Perikatan Nasional (PN) charge in the state.

The former Selangor menteri besar said PN can wrest the state from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“There’s no need to wait for (Selangor Menteri Besar) Amirudin (Shari) to announce it, let me announce it (the assembly dissolution) now,” he said.

“If the state elections are announced for early or mid-August, God willing, PN will form a new government in Selangor,” Azmin said in his speech at PN’s campaign held in Tanjong Karang last night.

Previously, Amirudin had said he would meet the state ruler in the third week of June to request the dissolution of the state assembly.

The Selangor assembly would have dissolved automatically on June 25.

Apart from Selangor, the states set to hold elections are Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

The main fight will be between PN and the combined forces of PH and Barisan Nasional.

Azmin told the crowd the state polls will be a referendum on the unity government led by Anwar Ibrahim.

He said Anwar has failed to deliver on many promises made before the last general election to uplift the economy and the people’s standard of living.

“He is now prime minister and has formed the government, but the petrol price has not gone down,” he said as reported by Malaysiakini.

“Problems involving inflation, the cost of living, the fall of the ringgit, the increase in the overnight policy rate and the economy have not been solved.

“If we look at what the economists (have said) … there are two factors that have caused the rise in inflation rate and the fall of the ringgit.

“First, there isn’t a comprehensive economic policy, and secondly, the economy minister and the government have weak economic and financial leadership.

“The term that I would use is ‘failed government’,” Azmin said. – June 5, 2023.
