PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) is expected to complete negotiations tomorrow over seats in the state elections.
Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd said the central leadership is scheduled to meet tomorrow to decide on the distribution of seats in the state, including the overlapping claims for the Port Klang constituency.
“The seats negotiation will be completed on Monday for all six states including Selangor. After that, we will decide on the candidates,” he told Mingguan Malaysia.
The Malay-language daily reported that PN is aiming to win 33 seats in Selangor, with Bersatu expected to stand in 19 constituencies and PAS, in 17.
The coalition has agreed to let Bersatu lead the Selangor government while PAS will retain power in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, if they won the elections.
Roslan said the results of last year’s general election show PN has a chance to wrest Selangor from Pakatan Harapan.
He said PAS received more than 60% of the Malay votes in 41 federal seats.
“All the targeted state seats have a 60% or more majority of Malay voters, including Gombak and Shah Alam. If we win 29 of them, we can form the state government.
“Among the factors that we expect to propel us to victory is the enmity between the leaders of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional .
“In addition, the support of former Umno leader Noh Omar, who still has influence in the state, with his clean record is also an advantage for PN.” – June 4, 2023.
