THE National Water Service Commission has set up a “war room” to supervise and ensure stable water supply in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan during El Nino.

The hot weather phenomenon is predicted to last until September, but experts have warned it could continue until October.

The commission said in a statement today the aim of the war room is to closely monitor dams and rivers that supply raw water to 354 water treatment plants.

The war room will ensure water supply operators take mitigation measures in the event of a crisis, it said.

It advised users to save water during the hot and dry season.

If users have questions or feedback about water supply during El Nino, they can call or Whatsapp 019-779 5000, email [email protected], or visit the website.

Several international meteorological agencies have warned of El Nino in mid-2023 to early 2024, and many countries have taken precautions against adverse effects of the phenomenon.
