PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) is confident of winning 33 of the 56 seats in the Selangor assembly in the state polls to form the next state government, former Umno strongman Noh Omar said.

Noh said this was possible as PN has Malay support, especially after Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) joined forces.

“There will be straight fights in Selangor now that PH and BN have joined forces, so I am confident PN will emerge victorious,” he was reported as saying at a PN event in Sungai Besar last night.

Noh was the former Selangor Umno chief and had been the Tanjong Karang lawmaker for six terms before he was dropped in the last general election.

He was dismissed from Umno earlier this year for going against party leadership.

In April, he said he would be nominated by PN to contest in the Selangor elections.

In the November general election, PN lost nine parliamentary seats in the state by fewer than 5,000 votes but the pact has expressed confidence since then of being able to reverse the trend to win more state seats in the elections.

At present, PH controls 40 seats and BN has five in the state assembly. PN has five – four in the hands of Bersatu and one with PAS. The remaining seats are held by Parti Bangsa Malaysia, Warisan and Pejuang. – June 2, 2023.
