Zambry kicks off France visit by meeting counterpart Colonna


Malaysia and France share a close friendship underpinned by active economic cooperation, says Foreign Minister Zambry Abd Kadir during his working visit to Paris. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, June 1, 2023.

FOREIGN Minister Zambry Abd Kadir began his working visit in France today by meeting his counterpart Catherine Colonna to discuss bilateral cooperation and mutually beneficial regional and international matters.

He will also meet Unesco director-general Audrey Azoulay and visit the Senate and the French Institute of International Relations while in Paris. 

This is Zambry’s maiden working visit to France since being handed the foreign affairs portfolio in December 2022. 

“I will meet Chems-Eddine Hafiz, rector of the Great Mosque of Paris, to discuss and exchange views on key issues, including efforts to deal with Islamophobia,” he said in a statement.

He said Malaysia and France share close friendship ties underpinned by active economic cooperation and friendly relations.

“This visit will further enhance the bilateral relationship that has been beneficial to the people of both countries, as implemented through existing cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, and technology exchange,” he said.

In 2022, France was Malaysia’s 21st-largest trading partner at the global level and the third-largest among European Union members, with a trading volume worth RM18.05 billion, an increase of 39.1% compared with the 2021 value. – Bernama, June 1, 2023.
