THE termination of Md Nasir Ibrahim’s service as chief executive officer of the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas), effective today, was a decision by its board of directors, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the decision was part of Finas’ policy restructuring to determine the agency’s future direction.

“It (Finas) has informed me (the decision) was based on several moves the agency wants to implement, including restructuring and recalibrating some policies.

“It also takes into account the view of the board of directors on Finas’ direction,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Telekom Malaysia Bhd and ZTE Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd for a strategic research and development programme.

Finas in a statement today expressed its appreciation to Md Nasir for his contribution throughout his service as the agency’s CEO from November 1, 2021, until yesterday.

On the implementation of the 5G network, Fahmi said a task force, co-chaired by Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican and Communications and Digital Ministry secretary-general Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, will continue to discuss equity matters with mobile network operators (MNOs).

“They are meeting on a regular basis, including today, to discuss the 5G rollout and the equity issue with MNOs,” he said.

Earlier, Fahmi reportedly said the transition from the single wholesale network to a dual one for 5G deployment would begin once the current rollout under Digital Nasional Bhd covers 80% of populated areas.

He said the switch to the dual network model would be activated based on terms consistent with global practices of using multiple networks. – Bernama, June 1, 2023.
