GERAKAN wants to contest in 30 seats in the state elections, party president Dominic Lau said.

Lau told Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia the party had almost concluded seat negotiations with its partners in Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“Gerakan has chosen 30 seats to contest in Kedah, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan,” the PN deputy chairman was quoted as saying.

He said the party had not decided on seats in the east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu.

“We do not mind not contesting in the two states, as what matters is ensuring a PN win in the elections,” he said.

Gerakan does not hold any seats in state assemblies or parliament.

He said Penang, which the party helmed for more than 30 years as part of the Barisan Nasional (BN), was a frontline state.

The party last governed the state in 2008 and quit BN a decade later. It joined PN in 2021. – May 29, 2023.
