SEAT talks between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the state elections are expected to conclude by next week, Umno Supreme Council member Bung Moktar Radin said.

“Nothing has been finalised and state-level discussions are ongoing.

“We will know by the end of this month,” Bung told reporters at the Umno headquarters last night following the party’s Supreme Council meeting.

Six states – Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu – will hold their polls by September.

Last week, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said seat negotiations with PH was almost completed.

Meanwhile, Bung, who is also Sabah Umno chief, welcomed the state’s move to pass the anti-party hopping bill that would prohibit assemblymen from changing parties.

“We were waiting for the bill to be amended because before that (we knew) so many assemblymen switched parties,” he said.

Sabah passed the long-awaited Anti-Party Hopping law on Thursday. – May 27, 2023.
