THE Communications and Digital Ministry will monitor and block the circulation of videos on deviant teachings, including those from neighbouring countries, on social media.

Fahmi Fadzil said his ministry, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will work with the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and state religious councils to identify and curb the spread of such materials.

“We will not only block the spread but also take action against those involved. That’s why we always provide reminders to prevent the spread of slanderous material that involve the three Rs (race, religion and royalty), including deviant teachings.

“Let us continue monitoring, and when we get a request or application to take action, MCMC will immediately contact the platform service provider,” he said in Kuala Lumpur last night.

A video depicting a ceremony at a boarding school in a neighbouring country glorifying Israel had gone viral and caused concern.

The government will also take action against fraud and the sale of drugs on social media platforms. – Bernama, May 27, 2023.
