PUTRAJAYA is taking steps to curb the spread of LGBT ideology with Mukhayyam rehabilitation programmes, Religious Affairs Minister Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said today.

The programmes are organised by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia, Yayasan Ihtimam Malaysia, and Selangor Islamic Religious Council.

“The government, through Jakim, has taken initiatives by establishing a Special Committee on Muslim LGBT Issues in Malaysia.

“The committee meets at least once a year or as needed. It is composed of ministries, departments, agencies and NGOs that will coordinate LGBT issues arising among Muslims in the aspects of education and advocacy, dakwah and guidance and enforcement,” Na’im said in a written reply to Ahmad Saad@Yahaya (Pokok Sena-PN).

Ahmad had asked the normalisation of LGBT culture in Malaysia.

Nai’m said the Youth and Sports and Health Ministries are also involved in advocacy efforts against LGBT culture.

“Among the programmes are a webinar on social issues for youth organised by Jakim and the uouth ministry, seminars on social issues by Jakim and Komuniti Dakwah dan Tarbiah, and Program Sihat Tanpa AIDS Remaja 2.0 by the Health Ministry,” he said.

He said although Malaysia does not recognise the LGBT movement, the government does not discriminate against members of the community. – May 23, 2023.
