DAP will tell its members to vote for Umno candidates in the state elections, Anthony Loke said today.

The DAP secretary-general said the directive would apply to all components of the unity government, to which Barisan Nasional belongs.

“When we work together in a coalition, component parties should support instead of fight one another.

“We are not contesting against each other and will be campaigning for one another,” he told the press at the Parliament building this morning.

The transport minister added that his message is not only meant for DAP but for all PH parties.

“We will campaign for our supporters to support Barisan candidates as well,” he said.

On Friday, Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan urged Umno supporters to vote for DAP candidates in six states holding elections soon. 

Ahmad said it is the right thing to do as Umno and DAP are partners.

Loke today chided Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin for saying that it was strange of Umno leaders to tell their supporters to vote for DAP.

“DAP campaigned for him in Pagoh. If it weren’t for PH voters, there was no way he would have won in the 2018 general election,” said Loke.

“Perhaps he has forgotten about it.”

Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are due to hold elections  around mid-year. – May 22, 2023.
