THE Employees Provident Fund building was ablaze today in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya.
This is the second time the landmark building has caught fire in five years. The first incident took place in February 2018.
A Fire and Rescue Department source, when contacted, confirmed that efforts are underway to put out the flames.
The Edge reported on May 8 that the 63-year-old building owned by the EPF is scheduled to reopen next year as a state-of-the-art senior living facility.
The developer, Pacific Senior Living Sdn Bhd, has inked a 30-year lease on the building.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hafisham Mohd Noor said no casualties were reported in the incident.
He said they received an emergency call at 10.39am and firemen reached the location about six minutes later.
More than 20 personnel from the following stations – Section 7, Serdang, Puchong, Pantai Dalam, and Hang Tuah – were dispatched to the scene.
“The fire affected only the fourth and fifth floors of the building. We brought the blaze under control at 11.08am.
“Alhamdulillah, there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is still being investigated,” he told reporters at the scene. – May 22, 2023.
