BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi must stick to the coalition’s principles and be more circumspect in matters related to the working relationship with Pakatan Harapan (PH), MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon said.

He said Zahid should look after the interests of BN component parties instead of those of PH, especially DAP.

“Cooperation between BN and PH must be reciprocal and mutually beneficial,” Chong said in a statement today.

Yesterday Zahid said Umno and MCA supporters would have no qualms voting for DAP in the state polls.

“Umno and Barisan Nasional members previously directed their supporters to vote for MIC and MCA candidates.

“The current approach of Umno telling its members to support DAP candidates is not based solely on party affiliation but rather on shared values to strengthen the unity government,” the Umno president and deputy prime minister said.

Chong emphasised that only MCA leaders can speak for the party.

Animosity prevails between MCA and DAP even though they are partners in the unity government. – May 6, 2023.
