THE unity government will continue to get the support of voters in Negri Sembilan despite Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) claim of a ‘Malay tsunami’ in the upcoming state election, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said that in the democratic system in this country, all parties are free to express their views.

“We are very confident that the people need stability and in Negri Sembilan, the priority is in terms of economic development and jobs. The people of Negri Sembilan will choose a government that can help them achieve these needs.

“They (the opposition) have to change their tactics not only in Negri Sembilan but also in Penang and Selangor, their leaders in Selangor also said (the same thing),” he told reporters after attending the Hari Raya open house of the Negri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee in Tampin today.

Zahid was commenting on PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement today that he was confident of securing at least 70% votes, especially Malay votes.

Zahid who is also BN chairman, said the coalition would be fielding more fresh faces and young candidates in the state elections to rejuvenate the party as well as give opportunities to young candidates.

“It has been proven in the Malacca and Johor elections. This trend is a hope for the people,” he added.

On the claim that a Malacca assemblyman from the party will join PAS, Zahid said he would meet the assemblyman soon. – Bernama, May 20, 2023.
