PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin is confident the bloc will get up to 80% of votes, especially from the Malay electorate, in the state polls.

The Bersatu president said his optimism is based on a PN popularity study.

He said the study showed Bersatu, Gerakan and PAS are ahead in terms of popularity and leadership.

“I am confident. Although (the support is) not 100%, but 70% to 80% (of support) from the people, especially from the Malays, is very good,” he said at a Raya open house in Pagoh today.

Muhyiddin said he believes support for PN will grow, considering the unity government’s performance.

“All of its (the government’s) actions are being evaluated by the people.

“The people are frustrated… it (the government) talks a lot but it doesn’t act on what it says,” he said.

On rumours that former Umno members will join PN, Muhyiddin said he is unsure about the matter.

“I don’t know for certain if any of them (former Umno leaders) have joined PAS. It all depends on whatever our colleagues decide.

“What I do know is that those who have joined PAS or Bersatu quietly… feel as though they do not have a place in Umno’s politics anymore.

“Maybe they want to move forward with this country’s politics and they feel they can do it in PN,” he said.

Former Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa reportedly confirmed he is applying to join PAS. – May 20, 2023.
