MOTORISTS in the capital can look forward to free-flowing traffic in parts of the city during peak hours with the introduction of new contraflow lanes in July, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
He said two lanes will be open to all vehicles and one to public transport.
He said the first one – a 2.4km stretch from the Sungai Besi toll to the Sungai Besi Expressway junction – will open on July 3.
Loke said the authorities are looking to extend the contraflow lane from Jalan Maharajalela to Taman Connaught, a distance of 4km.
He said the third contraflow lane, for public transport vehicles, will run from Ampang Point to Jalan Tun Razak.
“Two million vehicles enter Kuala Lumpur every morning and six million cars (enter the city) every 24 hours,” he said in a press conference today.
Loke said the Transport Ministry will continue to work with the authorities to ease traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur. – May 19, 2023.
