THE Third Meeting of the First Year of the 15th Perak Assembly at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Ipoh, will begin on Monday in a newly refurbished hall following the completion of renovation works early this month.
Speaker Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the RM1 million renovation, the first in 25 years, took eight weeks to be completed and included upgrading the desks and chairs of assemblymen after improvements were made earlier to the audio and visual system as well as carpeting, among others.
“This upgrading will enable the four-day meeting to be held in a more comfortable and refreshing environment, in line with the determination to uphold the state assembly as the highest legislative institution in the state,” he told a press conference at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan today.
He said at the sitting, two bills will be tabled by the government – the Perak Hotel Enactment 2023 and Poultry Farming (Amendment) Enactment 2023.
Apart from this, two motions would be moved by the Perak menteri besar – one to amend article 38 of Part Two of the Perak constitution and another on election to fill a vacancy in the Senate, he said.
Zahir said the two bills would be debated by 46 assemblymen, with 23 members involved in the debate on each bill.
“Government backbenchers and the opposition leader will be given 30 minutes each for the debate while other debaters will have 15 minutes each.
“The winding-up session on a bill by a state executive councillor is 60 minutes,” he said.
The public can follow the proceedings through via live streaming on the Perak assembly YouTube channel, through the Perak state government official portal and on the Perak Secretary’s Office official Facebook account. – Bernama, May 18, 2023.
