AS seat negotiations are ongoing for state polls, Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not plan to be “greedy” with its demands in Kelantan, a youth leader said.

Kelantan Amanah Youth chief Hazmi Hassan said the main agenda of PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) is to prevent PAS from winning again in the state.

“PH is not greedy (about seats in Kelantan). The important thing is to make sure the PAS government falls,” Hazmi told The Malaysian Insight.

Hazmi said PH-BN negotiations are ongoing in Kelantan and nothing has been finalised.

“We (PH and BN) should not (argue about) seats between us, which could result in PAS winning easily.

“PAS will try to use the seat allocations, logo and other matters as (provocative) issues but I feel the parties (in PH and BN) are united now,” he said.

Forty-five state seats are up for grabs in Kelantan.

In 2018, PAS won 37 seats in Kelantan, eight of which were won by BN.

Considering past results, Hazmi said Umno has the upper hand in Kelantan.

“We know Kelantan is a Malay state and traditionally it has always been Umno against PAS.

Umno has been in Kelantan for longer and it almost won the state in 2004, which will be considered in seat distribution, Hazmi said.

PAS has held Kelantan since 1990.

Elections in six states are expected to be called by as early as June, with each one having agreed to dissolve their assemblies by then.

The six states are Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Recently, Kelantan PH chairman Muhammad Husain said there has been no discussion on PH using BN’s logo in the state polls. – May 17, 2023.
