THE Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Level 1 heatwave warning for eight districts in the peninsula.
It posted the warning on its website’s Heat Wave Status page.
The eight districts are Padang Terap in Kedah; Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai in Kelantan; Pekan, Bera, and Rompin in Pahang, and Segamat and Muar in Johor.
According to MetMalaysia, the districts reached the yellow alert, or Level 1 warning, at 4.45pm yesterday.
The Level 1 warning is issued when – temperatures at a location are between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.
An orange alert, or Level 2 heatwave warning, will be issued when temperatures are between 37°C and 40°C for three consecutive days.
The red alert is issued when temperatures are above 40°C for three consecutive days – the sign of an extreme heatwave.
MetMalaysia also reported that other areas in the peninsula, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, recorded daily maximum temperatures of below 35°C. – May 16, 2023.
