PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated calls for the opposition to file for a no confidence motion in parliament if it feels the Federal government does not have enough support in parliament.

“The unity government is now strong.

“If anyone is still delirious, I want to give them a suggestion. Bring a motion in parliament and we will fight in parliament this week,” Anwar said during his speech today at the inaugural National Unity Government Convention at the World Trade Centre.

Anwar’s dare to the opposition comes amidst talk over the last few weeks that the opposition was on the cusp of toppling the unity government.

But to date it had yet to provide evidence of its numbers or file a motion of no confidence on the administration in parliament.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said the party does not plan to table a no-confidence vote against Anwar.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul also confirmed no MP had submitted an application to table a motion of confidence in the coming sitting after the deadline ended at 5pm on the same day.

Meanwhile at the convention today, Anwar also praised the commitment made by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the party lawmakers in forming the unity government.

The Tambun lawmaker said without their support, it would have been impossible to form a government.

“Aside from me, brother Zahid faced a lot of attacks as well. If it weren’t for Zahid’s commitment as Umno president and the support of Umno parliamentarians, our history would have changed.

“So, we have to recognise his role and Umno’s as well. In that critical situation, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Abang Openg and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah are the deciding factors,” he added.

The convention, themed “Madani – Mewajahi Masa Depan Malaysia (Madani – Envisaging Malaysia’s Future)” is part of the government’s drive to foster unity among former rival parties ahead of the six state elections. – May 14, 2023.
