DAP will stand in Teratai in the state elections, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said.

The party won the seat in the 2018 state polls but its candidate Bryan Lai left in 2021 to become an independent representative.

He left DAP amid allegations of an extramarital affair and subsequently joined the Parti Warisan Sabah in January 2021.

Lai has indicated that he will sit out the next state elections, expected to be called after June.

“We will follow the results of the 2018 general election in which DAP won the seat,” said Amirudin.

“There will not be any changes as to which party will contest the Teratai seat and DAP will represent the unity government,” he told reporters during the launch of Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung’s service centre today.

Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) are now in the final stages of negotiations for the components to vie for the 56 seats in the Selangor legislative assembly.

PKR currently holds the most seats in Selangor, at 19. This is followed by DAP (15) and Amanah (6).

BN has five seats, followed by Bersatu (4), Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Pejuang (2 each) and PAS, Warisan and the independents with one seat each.

Apart from Selangor, five other states – Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu – will go to the polls this year as the terms of their legislative assemblies will all expire automatically in the second half of 2023. – May 13, 2023.
