EVERY organisation in the armed forces should bolster its management to tackle bullying among personnel, Defence Minister Mohamad Hasan said.
He said every organisation would have their own standard operating procedure to deal with individuals who commit such immoral acts.
“If there is a clear breach of service (regulations) by those involved, the armed forces will take the necessary action according to the gravity of the offence.
“Some may warrant a dismissal from service. This is why I say, the laws are there, just like our country, but violations continue to happen,” he told reporters after opening the SK Taman Tuanku Ja’afar Parent-Teacher Association meeting in Seremban today.
He was commenting on yet another case of alleged bullying at a military facility, this time involving a trainee at the Port Dickson camp.
Port Dickson district police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed was quoted as saying the incident happened at about 10am on April 17 and it was reported to police on April 22.
Mohamad said he did not have the details on this case and was leaving it to the armed forces and police to investigate.
He advised armed forces personnel to focus on improving their work and service quality instead of getting involved in unhealthy activities like bullying.
On another matter, Mohamad said Malaysia was capable of producing small warships if it received proper technological support from its overseas partners.
“In terms of expertise, it is not impossible for our shipyards to build medium-sized ships of 100m and below. It is just that we need technology from our friends overseas to build telecommunication equipment and weaponry,” he said.
He said this when asked whether the government planned to allow local shipyards to build ships of below 80m in size. – Bernama, May 13, 2023.
