LIM Guan Eng has appealed to Malaysians to lodge police reports against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to put a stop to what Lim said are “divisive, extremist and racist politics” that threaten national unity and integration.

In a statement, the DAP chairman and Bagan MP said Hadi’s constant targeting of non-Muslims and non-Malays is a dangerous provocation “to disrupt, destabilise and destroy” the unity government, and cannot be ignored without response.

“To disregard Hadi is not only to condemn non-Muslims and non-Malays as deprived of their fundamental rights enshrined in the federal constitution.

“Failure to counter this dangerous attempt to sabotage, undermine and replace the unity government that has won a vote of confidence in parliament would be tantamount to being disrespectful to the king and parliament,” he said in response to the Marang MP’s latest Facebook post, in which the PAS chief said Malays “are being toyed with and conned due to their own neglect and ignorance”.

Hadi said since Malays “have become victims of the country’s politics, and are being plagued by corruption, moral decay, and division among themselves”, he urged them “not to let go of remaining political power with their own conduct”.

Lim in a statement said in Hadi’s blind ambition to unite Malays under his wing, the latter has shown he is prepared to betray and sacrifice the basic constitutional rights of non-Muslims and non-Malays.

“Hadi now (labels) them the biggest group of plunderers, and those who give and receive bribes. This is nonsense when corruption is colour-blind and is a national problem confronting all ethnic communities,” Lim said.

Hadi’s tirade, he said, exposes “PAS’ naked pursuit of power at any cost by exploiting extremist and racist tactics to target non-Muslims and non-Malays as a threat to Malays, with lies and baseless allegations to support his calls for the Malays to unite”.

“This is not the first time Hadi has relentlessly singled out non-Muslims and non-Malays for the problems faced by Malays. The government’s previous failure to act emboldened Hadi to make outrageous and irresponsible attacks on non-Muslims.”

Hadi, Lim said, has no shame in repeating the lies that minorities contributed to the 2022 general election with a higher voter turnout than Malays, even though Malays have the highest voter turnout of all communities at 79%.

Lim asked how Muslims have lost power, as Hadi claims, when all the important positions in the country are held by Malays or Muslims.

Lim said in the current 28-member cabinet, there are only nine non-Muslim ministers. Out of the 148 unity government MPs, 77 of them are Muslims, which is higher than the 72 Muslim MPs in the previous Perikatan Nasional government.

He said for Hadi to repeat his lie, first uttered last year, that non-Muslims are to be blamed for corruption in Malaysia and that non-Muslims and non-Malays are the biggest plunderers, “shows that he and PAS are a clear and present danger to the vision of Malaysia belonging to all”. – May 10, 2023.
