Bersatu won’t submit no-confidence motion against Anwar

BERSATU has said it will not submit a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the next parliament session scheduled for May 22.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said Anwar should focus on the country’s economy instead of entertaining gossip.

“Neither Muhyiddin Yassin nor Hamzah Zainudin has raised any statement on any numbers (to form government). These numbers from sources are just small political gossip; the prime minister does not need to entertain these rumours.

“I think the prime minister has to focus on current economic affairs,” he said after hosting the Bersatu Raya open house at Wangsa 118.

Yesterday, Anwar chided members of the opposition for threatening to topple the unity government, warning that action would be taken against those who persisted.

“Don’t sabotage (the government). We have given (you) room and if (you) try to interfere, we will act accordingly without compromise,” he said at an Aidilfitri open house in Penang.

Following reports of a conspiracy to topple the unity government, Anwar said he was fed up with the rumours and constant plotting.

He urged his political foes to table a motion of no confidence against him at the next parliament sitting in two weeks’ time.

Anwar also said Perikatan Nasional (PN) could submit statutory declarations to prove it had a parliamentary majority during the session.

A cryptic social media post by Bersatu leader Faiz Na’aman had earlier fuelled speculation that PN was poised to form the new government.

In the post, the Bersatu supreme council member said: “Already 126… if it’s true, thank God.” – May 8, 2023.
