THE country should focus on rebuilding its economy and reject any threat to destabilise the unity government, Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said.

“BN is urging everyone to focus on nation-building and to reject any form of political threat. Malaysia needs to return to the international platform in order to convince investors,” Zambry said, reiterating BN’s support for Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister.

“Stability must be guarded by everyone,” he said.

Zambry’s statement today followed rumours that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had the numbers to form a new administration.

He said BN wanted a peaceful and stable country led by a prime minister who was accepted by all parties in the unity government.

Yesterday, Anwar said PN could submit statutory declarations to prove it had a parliamentary majority during the next session.

He added that the opposition was welcome to submit a motion and he would not take issue with it if it was true.

Recently, a cryptic social media post by Bersatu leader Faiz Na’aman fuelled speculation that PN had the numbers to form the government.

In the post, the Bersatu supreme council member said: “Already 126… if it’s true, thank God.”

A source was reported as saying that Istana Negara would not entertain a claim by any party that Anwar had lost majority support, while Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had expressed concern over reports about political instability, saying “enough is enough”. – May 6, 2023.
