MUDA has urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) to quickly decide on its application to join the coalition before elections in six states.
The youth party applied to join the coalition last year before the November general election.
“I hope the decision will be given before the state elections so that we can make the necessary plans for the polls,” Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi told The Malaysian Insight.
In March, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also urged PH to make a quick decision on his party’s application for membership.
Amir said the party has not received a response from PH.
“We sent the application before GE15. If they say OK, then good. If they say no, then we can move forward,” Amir added.
Prior to the November 19 polls, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said it would be difficult to admit Muda as a fifth component of the coalition as that would require the approval of the Registrar of Societies.
PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had recently said that he was too busy with his ministerial duties to read Muda’s application letter.
Meanwhile, Amir said Muda has not spoken with PH over the allocation of seats to contest in the six states due to hold polls soon.
“We are waiting for a response from them (on the application),” Amir reiterated.
In its federal polls debut, Muda stood for election in six seats and won one via Muar incumbent Syed Saddiq.
Despite being an ally of the unity government, Muda was not invited to the two secretariat meetings held so far. – May 4, 2023.
