THE 14th general election will be peaceful if all political parties give full cooperation to the police, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid said police have also been reminded to not use force or do harm to the public.

“Do engage with all political parties. Do not use tear gas. Do not even use water cannon. Only use force if it is truly needed,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today.

He also reminded political parties to not provoke the police.

“Do not challenge the police. If you want democracy, give full cooperation to the police. They will do their best to be fair.

“I hope this GE14 will be the most peaceful and orderly,” he said.

Zahid delivered his “last” mandate before GE14 to the police force. All contingents nationwide were able to watch and hear him through a live tele conference.

He applauded the force for their good work and said the police were 100% ready to face GE14.

He also announced officers on duty during GE14 would be given half of their allowance before being deployed.

The remainder would be paid at least 30 days after finishing their work.

“The money is with the police department. I am concerned with my subordinates and this is an appreciation to their commitment,” he said.

The 14th general election is expected before June, although August is the absolute constitutional deadline. – March 20, 2018.
