THE Pardons Board has not met to discuss former prime minister Najib Razak’s application for a royal pardon, according to a FMT report, quoting a source.

The source went on to deny reports claiming the board, chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah would discuss Najib’s application today.

Najib was jailed last year after the Federal Court upheld his conviction in the SRC International case.

The former prime minister was convicted in July 2020 on charges of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million. He was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million.

After his appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in December 2021, he started serving his prison term on August 23, 2022 following the Federal Court’s decision to uphold the original conviction and sentence.

On March 31, a separate five-member Federal Court bench dismissed Najib’s review bid of his conviction and sentence in a majority decision. – April 28, 2023.
