FIVE short-term measures are being considered to deal with traffic congestion during peak hours at the Sultan Iskandar Building’s Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex.
Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said traffic congestion could be reduced by boosting operating efficiency.
He said among the measures considered were ensuring all counters operated at maximum capacity during peak hours, making shift changes during off-peak hours, and merging the car lanes for zones A, B, C, and D – with everything to be completed by July.
“In addition, the shortage of immigration staff and administrative issues leading to working overtime must be resolved immediately and the Malaysian Immigration Department (MID) and Public Works Department need to continue to monitor the work of concession companies in terms of maintenance of public facilities and assets at BSI and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.
“I am aware of the constraints experienced by the state Immigration Department and MID, but I am confident that with strategic and continuous cooperation between all parties, the issue of congestion on both routes between Johor and Singapore can be dealt with more effectively,” he said.
