THE Barisan Nasional (BN) supreme council, at its meeting last night, unanimously agreed to back the unity government.
Its secretary-general Zamry Abd Kadir said the meeting, held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL), was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also BN chairman, and attended by all of the coalition’s component parties.
“The BN supreme council has also been updated on the preparations for the state elections in Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
“A cooperation model between BN and parties in the unity government was also discussed,” he said in a statement shared on the BN Facebook page.
Zambry added that the BN supreme council had also agreed to participate in the Unity Government National Convention to be held on May 14 at WTCKL.
At the meeting, the presidents of the respective component parties congratulated Zahid and Mohamad Hasan for winning the Umno president deputy president posts respectively.
Zambry also said the BN supreme council agreed to the appointment of Johari Abdul Ghani as BN treasurer-general, as well as Muhamad Akmal Saleh and Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi as representatives of the youth and puteri movements, respectively.
In the meeting, Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin were appointed Umno representatives in the BN supreme council, while Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah is represented by its information chief Fredie Sua. – Bernama, April 28, 2023.
