DR Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan has been appointed the new health director-general.

He replaces Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who retired on April 21.

Radzi was one of Noor Hisham’s three deputies previously and was in charge of research and technical support.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa made the announcement in a statement today.

Zaliha said he was appointed based on his qualifications and extensive experience in the medical field. 

Among his experiences, Radzi had served as the head of medical department at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah’s chief medical coordinator and also led Kedah’s clinical research centre.

“I am confident in the experience, knowledge, expertise and credibility Radzi brings and I believe he is able to give his best and that we could work as a team in ensuring that the national health reform goals and agenda are implemented comprehensively in line with the health white paper that is being developed.

“This is so that Malaysians can continue to enjoy a comprehensive, quality and sustainable health services,” she said in statement today. 

Noor Hisham, who became a national icon for playing his part in steering Malaysia out of Covid-19, retired last Friday after serving the Health Ministry for 35 years.

He served as director-general for 10 years. – April 25, 2023.
