A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 4am today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 85km northwest of Siberut, at a depth of 48 km.
“Tremors were felt on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia,” MetMalaysia said on its Facebook page.
It said the quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
